How to Find a Golf Game in a New City
By MyFoursome · Published · 4 min read
One of the best things about golf is how portable it is. Move to a new city or travel for work, and within a few days you can be on a course with local players — if you know where to look.
General guidance, not a guarantee of results. Course policies and competition rules vary. Joining or hosting a MyFoursome game does not itself reserve a tee time.
Find the right course
Search for public courses in the city and read a few reviews on Google Maps or GolfNow. Look for courses with good online booking availability and a reputation for welcoming visitors.
Avoid private clubs unless you're a member or have a member invite. Many semi-private courses offer public access on weekdays.
Book or join an open tee time
You can book directly through the course or use a booking app like GolfNow or TeeOff. If you're a single or twosome, joining an existing open foursome is often faster — someone has already booked the time and just needs players.
Meet local golfers
The pro shop is your best resource. Tell them you're new to the area and looking for regular play — they often know which leagues are welcoming newcomers or who plays frequently.
Local Facebook golf groups and Reddit city-specific subs often have active 'anyone want to play?' threads.
Build a regular group faster than you'd expect
In most cities, playing a few rounds and being a good golfing partner leads to invitations pretty quickly. Golf is a social sport and regulars are always looking for reliable playing partners.
